Detailed Itinerary

Day1. Lake Ugii & Karakorum

breakfast time → drive to Lake Ugii /350 km/ → lunch time →drive to Kultegen and Bilge Khaan’s Legendary Monuments /20 km/ → visit to the site → drive to Karakorum /68 km/ → see Great Imperial Map → lunch time → visit to Erdene Zuu monastery complex and its turtle rocks → dinner → free time → overnight in Kharkhorin

Lake Ugii is nearest lake to Ulaanbaatar capital city. It is also called a paradise for fishers and located in the territory of Arkhangai province, the central part Mongolia.  Tough this small lake covers area of only 61 km.sq, it is the main destination for fishers and boating adventurers. If you want we can do some boating experience and fishing there!

Kultegen and Bilge Khaan’s Legendary Monumentswhich is belong to Turkish culture of VIII century.

Karakorum, the ancient capital of Mongolia where today there is a small local township. On arrival you will notice the first and most obvious landmark which is the massive wall of monastery Erdenezuu. The monastery was built in 1586 by a well-known Mongolian king called Abtai Sain Khaan, and is surrounded by a vast 400m wall. Not a single nail was used in the construction of the ornate temples, only a few of which remain standing after the communist purges. In previous times the grounds held over 60 temples with 10,000 monks using them for their daily worship.

During the way visit the mountainside remains of the Ongiin Khiid, which now has a small number of novices after years of turmoil. There we will enjoy the peace and beauty of the Delger Khangai Mountains.

Day3. Bayanzag

breakfast time – drive to Bayanzag /180 km/ – lunch time – ride camel – dinner time – hike around Ulaan Ereg (Flaming Cliffs) – overnight around Bayanzag

Bayanzag, a saxual forest and area of red cliffs “Bayanzag” which have been formed from the erosion of the sand and rock over many thousands of years. A lot of dinosaurs’ findings such as skeleton & dinosaur’ eggs have been found there. Before reach in Bayanzag, we will see Gobi precious stone market. It is really interesting. American zoologist Roy Chapman Andrews named this place as “End of the World”. As scientists defined it was an inland sea bottom some 200 million years ago. The Flaming Cliffs themselves are very imposing from a distance, and are particularly fiery in the light of the setting sun, and it is an interesting place to wander about to get a closer look at one of the world’s most famous paleontological sites. Also, we will visit local dinosaur ger museum.

Day4. Khongoriin Els

breakfast time – drive to Khongoriin Els (Sand dunes Khongor) /120 km/ – lunch time – free time – dinner time – climb up to the sand dunes and hike around it – overnight around Sand dunes.

Khongoryn Gol. After dinner time, we will explore the area, climbing one of the dunes affords the energetic traveler with an unforgettable experience of endless vistas across a sea of daffodil-colored sand. The dunes extend for 185 kilometers and include dunes that can reach 80 meters in height. The sound produced by the masses of moving sand can be heard from afar, and when it occurs, it is said that it can be mistaken for the sound of an aero plane. Hence their name is ‘singing sands’, or ‘musical sands’. Near Khongor Gol (River Khongor) at the northern edge of the dunes, there is an oasis. More…

Day5. Sevrei, Gurvan Tes, Naran Daats

breakfast time → drive to Sevrei sum (sub-provincial center) /35 km/ → drive to Sevrei Mountain /20 km/ for seeing Sevrein khadnii sug zurag (rock drawings of Sevrei) → lunch time → drive to Gurvan Tes sum (sub-provincial center) /120 km/ → dinner time → drive to Oasis Naran Daats /70 km/ → overnight around Oasis /tent/

The stone carvings of Sevrei khadny sug zurag constitute one of the largest collections of prehistoric petroglyphs in Mongolia. The collection was recognized by Mongolian cultural heritage site. The figures are sometimes simply superimposed without apparent order. Others instead appear to have a logical relationship between them; for example, a picture of a religious rite or a hunting scene or fight. This approach explains the scheme of images, each of which is an ideogram that is not the real object, but its “idea”. Their function pertains to celebratory rituals: commemorative, initiatory and propitiatory; first in the field of religion, then later even secular, which were held onn special occasions, either single or recurrent.

Gurvan tes is very small town and sub-provincial center of Gurvan Tes sub-province of Ömnögobi province of Mongolia.

Day6. Khermen Tsav

From there, we will drive through saxaul-filled desert oases Naran Daats to the most famous canyon of southern ultimate Gobi desert: the spectacular Khermen Tsav. In translation it means as Khermen – “citadel” and Tsav means “crack”. It is the most legendary impressive place with its color and contrast because this deep canyon has been forming over thousands of years from water and wind erosion. Khermen Tsav is a geologic museum of epic proportions, where earth’s many million year history is displayed.  It’s a sight everyone should see!

Day7. Ekhiin Gol Oasis – Biggest oasis in Gobi Desert

breakfast time → drive to biggest Oasis of Gobi Desert Ekhiin Gol (Mother’s River) /80 km/ → lunch time → visit to locals’ agricultural plant husbandry site → hike to Jaagiin Ovoo Mountain /3 hours/ and River Ekhiin Gol /2 hours/ → dinner time → free time → overnight in Ekhiin Gol small village /home of locals/

Ekhiin Gol, this oasis is hidden in the depths of the Gobi desert, where a number of green oases dot the landscape.  During years of 1980 this oasis used to be an important agricultural research station. Nowadays, there is about about 20 families remain. Here grow tomatoes, cucumber, watermelon, peppers and some fruit, which are sold locally. Getting the produce to other markets is nearly impossible, as there are no flights, and the provincial center is 400 km away along a rough dirt track.

Day8. Zuun Mod Oasis

breakfast time → drive to dinosaur site & natural beauty Nogoon Tsav /50 km/ → hike around Nogoon Tsav → drive to Oasis Zuun Mod (Hundreds Trees) /35 km/→ lunch time → drive to Shinejinst (sub-provincial center) /80 km/ → overnight in Shinejinst.

Zuun Mod (One Hundred Trees Oasis). This small oasis on the northern edge of the Gobi desert provides food and drinking water for herders and their livestock. The saxaul “forest” in the background is characteristic of the Gobi.

Day10. Galuutiin Khavtsal

Today we will reach in  Galuutyn Khavtsal (Goose Gorge) which is located 20 km from Galuut (Goose) sub-provincial center and the Gorge is the most picturesque of all the gorges in the Mongolia. It was created by erosion from the Galuut Gol (Goose River) over thousands of years. The Grand Canyon is approximately 2 kilometers long. It is 100-150 meters deep in places, and as much as 10-20 meters wide. The rocky sides drop very steeply. The River is very fast flowing, so has plenty of energy for erosion and the size of narrowest wide of the river is 3-5 meters and water flow makes strong noises in this place.

Day11. Nomadic family

Day12. Otgontenger

breakfast time → drive to Uliastai town /150 km/→ lunch time → drive to Strictly Protected Area Ongontenger uul /100 km/→ dinner time → hike around the Mountain – overnight around the Mountain /tent/

Mount Otgontenger uul is the highest mountain of Central Mongolian Mountain Range Khankhai at 4,021 m. Mount Otgontenger lies about 100 kilometres (60 miles) east of Uliastai, and can be seen from there on a clear day. It is not surprising that the nearly perfectly shaped mountain has been worshiped as a sacred mountain and experienced big popularity among artists and common people. If you want to enjoy Mount Otgontenger at a more leisurely pace and from a nice natural surrounding, you should head to the Lake Badarkhundaga nuur at the foot of the mountain, a nearby tourist camp.

Day13. Sogoo

Sogoo is small village that is located in picturesque valley of River Sogoo.

Day14. Gandan nuur

This is a place situated in the North Mongolia close to the border with Russia. This is just a small part of a lovely, picturesque place in northern Mongolia called Gandan nuur. Day15. Murun

Detailed Itinerary

Day1. Baga Gazar Rocks- rocky mountain

We will pick you from your accommodation and drive to Baga Gazar Rocks (258 km) on the paved road. It is a null granite rock distinct mountain formation surrounded by plateau landscape. Highest point is 1765 m above sea level. We will hike and explore there some interesting places such as a mountain mouth with aspen threes named Sudut Mouth with aspen threes and a ruin of a Buddhist temple, Jargalant Cave, eye mineral water etc. Overnight there.

Day2. Tsagaan Suvarga Cliff- colorful earth wall

After breakfast time, we will drive to Tsagaan Suvarga Cliff (271 km) on the paved road. It is sheer slope and was an old seabed with sedimentary structure created by millions years and the different colors of the ground represent different times. The formation is over 50 m in its highest point and continues 400 m and looks like a ancient ghost city form a distance. There is no clear date of geography research work and it is good spot take rest and overnight place driving to South Gobi. Around the site, there is Khevtee Bosoo Cave. We will do some hiking around the site and see the cave. Overnight there.

Day3. Yol Valley- horse ride

After breakfast time, we drive to Yol Valley (212 km) on the paved road. Yol means vulture in Mongolian and the valley begins from Zuun Saikhan Mountain and stretches over 10 km. The narrowest part, only 3 or 4 person can pass in same time, of the valley is completely shaded from the direct sun shine by high cliff walls. Also, the valley is famous for the fact that there is ice created in winter by small stream of the valley present there even during the hot summer months until end of July. The beauty of the valley, combined with the smell of juniper creates an atmosphere of awe and wonder. There we will ride horse through the valley. An hour hiking is also a nice activity there if you not like horse ride. As well, we visit to local natural museum of Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park. Overnight there.

Day4. Khongor Sand Dune- camel ride

After breakfast time, we will drive to Khongor Sand Dune (190 km). Khongor is second biggest sand dune in the country that extend along the northern side of Sevrei and Zoolun mountain ranges. It range from 5 to 10 km in width, nearly 100 km long, with crests rising 80 to 300m above the surrounding landscape. The booming sound produced by the masses of moving sand can be heard from afar when occurs windy day. Hence locals called it as Singing Sands. Near Khongor River at the northern edge of the dunes, there is an oasis. We will ride camels today to explore these massive sand-dunes and explore the area where climbing one of the dunes affords the energetic traveler with an unforgettable experience of endless vistas across a sea of daffodil-colored sand. Overnight there.

Day5. Bayanzag- famous dinosaur site

After breakfast time, we will drive to Bayanzag (150 km). Bayanzag means saxual forest in English and area of red cliffs “Bayanzag” which have been formed from the erosion of the water and wind over many millions of years. A lot of dinosaurs’ findings such as Protoceratops & dinosaur’ eggs have been found there in first time. American zoologist Roy Chapman Andrews discovered this place and named as Flaming Cliffs. The red colored cliffs themselves are very imposing from a distance, and are particularly fiery in the light of the setting sun. It is an interesting place to wander about to get a closer look at one of the world’s most famous paleontological sites. In the evening we will walk around the site. Overnight there.

Day6. Ongi Monastery Ruin

After breakfast time, we will drive to Ongi Monastery Ruin (155 km). Ongi Monastery Ruin is the ruins of a Buddhist monastery founded in 1760 and destroyed in 1937 by communist purges. Located on the shore of the Ongi River, the monastery was formerly one of the largest monasteries in Mongolia. Raw violence of the destruction at the site was still visible, still palpable, even though it happened over years ago. It is a good place for overnight of traveling between Central Mongolia and Gobi. We will hike to the ruins for visiting to local ger museum displayed survived objects of destroyed monastery and a small lovely and active Buddhist temple. Overnight there.

Day7. Visit to nomadic family & Karakorum- former capital city of Genghis Khan

After breakfast time, we will drive to a nomadic family in Central Mongolia (217 km). Enjoy the joyful atmosphere and learn the clever nomads’ way of life by taking every chance of taking part in the nomadic life activities like a nomad. Experience the milking cows or goats. Watch how they produce tasty and nutritious dairy products. Taste their drink Airag (horse milk). Then, participate in the nomads’ daily chores – prepare dried dung from a nearby mountain for the family’s household use for making fire. After lunch time, we will drive to Karakorum (44 km). Karakorum, the capital of Great Mongolian State where today there is a small local township. The city of Karakorum was founded in 1220 in Orkhon River Valley by order of Genghis Khan and after collapse of Yuan dynasty of Khuvilai Khan, Min state’s invaders sacked the city in 1388 and ruined it. After 200 years in 1586, Erdene Zuu, the first Buddhist monastery have been built there by remained ruin of Karakorum as construction materials. In the 18th century, the complex of ornate gardens and 62 temples were home to over 1000 lamas. But in 1937, the most monasteries destroyed by communist purges. We will visit to Karakorum Museum, Karakorum Open Museum and Erdene Zuu Monastery respectively. Overnight there.

Day8. Tuvkhun Temple- hike in the larch forest

After breakfast time, we will drive to Tuvkhun Monastery (65 km). The monastery is located on the peak of the densely forested and picturesque mountain Shiveet at the elevation of 2000m. Mongolian first bogd (head of the Buddhism) Zanabazar’s followers built the temple in 1653 for meditation and art studio purpose. There is several interesting things to see. Meditation caves, foot print of Zanabazar on the rock, first drawn version of soyombe, independence symbol, etc. We will hike from the bottom of the mountain to the top or the monastery. Overnight there.

Day9. Orkhon Waterfall- horse ride

After breakfast time, we will drive to Orkhon Waterfall (54 km). Over 25 m high and 10 m wide Orkhon Waterfall is the biggest waterfall in the country and one of the most attractive destination in Orkhon River Valley, UNISCO World heritage site. The surrounding areas of the waterfall was formed by volcanic activities dated back approximately 20,000 years and covered by over 10 m thick lava layer with interesting shapes of bubbles which created smaller waterfalls with 4-5 m heights. After dinner time, we will ride horses and walk for seeing the big and small waterfalls. Overnight there.

Day10. Tsenkher Hot Spring- relaxing

After breakfast time, we will drive to Tsenkher Hot Spring (95 km). Tsenkher’s abundant therapeutic natural hot spring, flows out from the ground at +86°c, have been identified as amongst the best in the Mongolia in terms of healing qualities, radio energy & temperature variance & water supply, and are particularly effective in treating a multitude of ailments and skin diseases because they can accommodate many different forms/strengths of therapy. There is several tourist ger resorts which provide hot pools by hot water from the Tsenkher geothermal area. We will do hiking to the scenic Shiveet Mountain or Tsenkher Valley which is home of yaks and stay in pool in the evening. Overnight in the tourist ger camp.

Day11. Khorgo-Terkh National Park- study volcanic activities

After breakfast time, we will drive to Khorgo-Terkh National Park (212 km) on the paved road. On the way, we will see Chuluut River Canyon. The volcano erupted in the Quaternary Period and its lava closed the water stream of a river and result of this meeting has created a truly incredible landscape, Khorgo Extinct Volcano and Terkh Lake, large placid lake is ringed by sandy beaches. There is a number of small or big circuit gorges, Shar Nokhoin Tam & Solo Person’s Cave etc, and complete or not complete erupted 13 volcanoes and rock formations with fast flowing rivers and cascades. From the top of the volcano panoramic view is superb. We will climb up to the top of the volcano and walk discover the circuit gorges. Overnight there.

Day12. Shine Ider sub-province

After breakfast time, we will drive to Shine Ider sub-province (170 km). On the way, we will see picturesque and high Orookh Mountain Pass. Overnight in the tourist ger camp.

Day13. Uushig Deer Stones – ancient burial site & Khuvsgul Lake – reindeer people

After breakfast time, we will drive to Uushig Deer Stones (109 km). A complex of 30 deer stones of Uushig Valley and its burial mounts belong to the ancient Huns period and over 3000 years ago. The Bronze Age funeral practice, sacrificial ritual and ideology and animal style art, which were spread among ancient nomads, are all together represented through deer stones made by long block of granite. Highly artistic illustrations of deers and other images are symbol of Shamanism. Especially, statues with images of human face draw attentions of many scientists and considered one of the rarest statues. We will walk and explore the site. Then we will drive to Khuvsgul Lake National Park (132 km) on the paved road. About midway along border between Mongolia and Russian Siberia, in a gigantic stone bowl nearly 110km long and almost 40km wide, lies 3% of the all the fresh water on earth – Lake Khusgul. The lake region is home to an enormous variety of plants and animals. Since 1990s Lake Khuvsgul and the entire surrounding area have been designated as a national park, and Khuvsgul is today a naturalist’s paradise and an idyllic holiday destination. The water in the lake is so clean and clear that one can easily catch sight of ground. After dinner time, we will do small leisure hike along the shore of the lake.

Day14. Khuvsgul Lake National Park – full day horse trek

After lunch time, we will enjoy an exhilarating horseback pack trip through untamed wilderness and panoramic scenery. The horseback riding enthusiast will experience an unforgettable excursion through timbered ridges and mountain meadows. We offer horse pack trips suited for all ages and abilities with rides varying in length . Horse pack trips allow you to reach deep into the southern Siberian wilderness. Horseback riding and fun are the main objectives on horse pack trips combined with good nomad’s Mongolian hospitality. Saddle up the whole family for an unforgettable horseback riding adventure. After dinner time, we will visit  to the reindeer herders. They are Tuvan people who migrated to the northern most edge of Mongolian territory from Russian Tuvan Republic around 1920s by the variuos reason. Dukha (another name) are one of the last groups of nomadic reindeer herders and about 40 families left. Their living place is Ulaan Taiga and Darkhad Valley area but few  reindeer people move to south to the lake area in touristic season for selling hand made souviner to tourists and brought their reindeers for photo. Day15. Uran Extinct Voclano – hiking

After breakfast time, we will drive to Uran Extinct Volcano (408 km) on the paved road. On the way, we will see picturesque Ikh-Uu Mountain. Uran means “Artistic”,  Mongols named it so because its ridge of the crater is one of many examples of circles that arise in nature resembled a nice creature of a craftsman. A circle-shaped ridge about 500 m across that contains a crater lake at about 20 m wide and 1.5 m deep. There is  also another recognizable volcanoes with broken craters such as Tulga, Jalavch and Togoo. We will climb up to the top of the volcano. Overnight there.

After breakfast time, we will drive to Amarbayasgalant Monastery (264 km) on the paved road. English meaning of the monastery is Monastery of Tranquil Felicity. It is a large and best preserved in Mongolia. By the order of Kang Xi of Qun built in 1736 for commemorate for Zanabazar who is first bogd of Mongolian Buddhism. The monastery was sacked in 1937 during Stalinist purges. After the restoration, started from 1988, by funding of high ranked Buddhist leaders of Tibet, the monastery complex eventually took its former glory. We will walk there and explore the monastery. Overnight there.

Day17. Back to Ulaanbaatar.

We head back to Ulaanbaatar (338 km) on the paved road. On the way we pass Erdenet and Darkhan industrial cities. Once back in UB you will be transferred to your accommodation.

Why food service not included in the Budget Arrangement? You can buy meals from local ger guesthouses by paying only 2 or 3 usd per meal. There is plenty of food shops on the way when you are touring. You can carry your own food from UB. It is nice you eat our own breakfast and then buy meals for lunch and dinner. Detailed Itinerary

Day1. Tsagaan Suvarga Cliff- colorful earth wall

In the morning, we will pick you up from your accommodation and drive to Tsagaan Suvarga Cliff (470 km) on the paved road. It is sheer slope and was an old seabed with sedimentary structure created by millions years and the different colors of the ground represent different times. The formation is over 50 m in its highest point and continues 400 m and looks like a ancient ghost city form a distance. There is no clear date of geography research work and it is good spot take rest and overnight place driving to South Gobi. Around the site, there is Khevtee Bosoo Cave. We will do some hiking around the site and see the cave. Overnight there.

Day2. Yol Valley – horse ride & Bayanzag – famous dinosaur site.

After breakfast time, we drive to Yol Valley (195 km) on the paved road. Yol means vulture in Mongolian and the valley begins from Zuun Saikhan Mountain and stretches over 10 km. The narrowest part, only 3 or 4 person can pass in same time, of the valley is completely shaded from the direct sun shine by high cliff walls. Also, the valley is famous for the fact that there is ice created in winter by small stream of the valley present there even during the hot summer months until end of July. The beauty of the valley, combined with the smell of juniper creates an atmosphere of awe and wonder. There we will ride horse through the valley. An hour hiking is also a nice activity there if you not like horse ride. As well, we visit to local natural museum of Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park. Then we will drive to Bayanzag (101 km). Bayanzag means saxual forest in English and area of red cliffs “Bayanzag” which have been formed from the erosion of the water and wind over many millions of years. A lot of dinosaurs’ findings such as Protoceratops & dinosaur’ eggs have been found there in first time. American zoologist Roy Chapman Andrews discovered this place and named as Flaming Cliffs. The red colored cliffs themselves are very imposing from a distance, and are particularly fiery in the light of the setting sun. It is an interesting place to wander about to get a closer look at one of the world’s most famous paleontologist sites. In the evening we will walk around the site. Overnight there.

Day3. Khongor Sand Dune- oasis tour & climb up

After breakfast time, we will drive to Khongor Sand Dune (152 km). Khongor is second biggest sand dune in the country that extend along the northern side of Sevrei and Zoolun mountain ranges. It range from 5 to 10 km in width, nearly 100 km long, with crests rising 80 to 300m above the surrounding landscape. The booming sound produced by the masses of moving sand can be heard from afar when occurs windy day. Hence locals called it as Singing Sands. Near Khongor River at the northern edge of the dunes, there is Khongor Oasis. Walk on the meadow and taste mineral water from the sand foot. Overnight there.

Day4. Khongor Sand Dune – a day camel trekking

After breakfast time, we will do camel trek in full day. The two-humped camels are very comfortable to ride, as they walk slowly and gently and we will be well supported by the humps, sitting comfortably between them. Our camel man will take us to the sand-dunes. After that we will visit to camel herder family who lives around the Khongor Oasis. Taste dairy products of camel milk and drink milk tea. Overnight in the camel herder family.

Day5. Ongi Monastery Ruin- hiking

After breakfast time, we will drive to Ongi Monastery Ruin (299 km). Ongi Monastery Ruin is the ruins of a Buddhist monastery founded in 1760 and destroyed in 1937 by communist purges. Located on the shore of the Ongi River, the monastery was formerly one of the largest monasteries in Mongolia. Raw violence of the destruction at the site was still visible, still palpable, even though it happened over years ago. It is a good place for overnight of traveling between Central Mongolia and Gobi. We will hike to the ruins for visiting to local ger museum displayed survived objects of destroyed monastery and a small lovely and active Buddhist temple. Overnight there.

Day6. Visit to nomadic family & Karakorum- former capital city of Genghis Khan

After breakfast time, we will drive to a nomadic family in Central Mongolia (217 km). Enjoy the joyful atmosphere and learn the clever nomads’ way of life by taking every chance of taking part in the nomadic life activities like a nomad. Experience the milking cows or goats. Watch how they produce tasty and nutritious dairy products. Taste their drink Airag (horse milk). Then, participate in the nomads’ daily chores – prepare dried dung from a nearby mountain for the family’s household use for making fire. After lunch time, we will drive to Karakorum (44 km). Karakorum, the capital of Great Mongolian State where today there is a small local township. The city of Karakorum was founded in 1220 in Orkhon River Valley by order of Genghis Khan and after collapse of Yuan dynasty of Khuvilai Khan, Min state’s invaders sacked the city in 1388 and ruined it. After 200 years in 1586, Erdene Zuu, the first Buddhist monastery have been built there by remained ruin of Karakorum as construction materials. In the 18th century, the complex of ornate gardens and 62 temples were home to over 1000 lamas. But in 1937, the most monasteries destroyed by communist purges. We will visit to Karakorum Museum, Karakorum Open Museum and Erdene Zuu Monastery respectively. Overnight there.

Day7. Tuvkhun Temple – hike in the larch forest & Orkhon Waterfall – horse ride

After breakfast time, we will drive to Tuvkhun Monastery (65 km). The monastery is located on the peak of the densely forested and picturesque mountain Shiveet at the elevation of 2000m. Detailed Itinerary

Day1. Fly to Gobi. Yol Valley – horse ride & Bayanzag – famous dinosaur site.

In the morning, we will pick you up from your accommodation and transfer to the airport. After you landed in Dalanzadgad, our local guide and driver will pick you up and drive to Yol Valley (50 km). Yol means vulture in Mongolian and the valley begins from Zuun Saikhan Mountain and stretches over 10 km. The narrowest part, only 3 or 4 person can pass in same time, of the valley is completely shaded from the direct sun shine by high cliff walls. Also, the valley is famous for the fact that there is ice created in winter by small stream of the valley present there even during the hot summer months until end of July. The beauty of the valley, combined with the smell of juniper creates an atmosphere of awe and wonder. There we will ride horse through the valley. An hour hiking is also a nice activity there if you not like horse ride. As well, we visit to local natural museum of Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park. Then we will drive to Bayanzag (101 km). Bayanzag means saxual forest in English and area of red cliffs “Bayanzag” which have been formed from the erosion of the water and wind over many millions of years. A lot of dinosaurs’ findings such as Protoceratops & dinosaur’ eggs have been found there in first time. American zoologist Roy Chapman Andrews discovered this place and named as Flaming Cliffs. The red colored cliffs themselves are very imposing from a distance, and are particularly fiery in the light of the setting sun. It is an interesting place to wander about to get a closer look at one of the world’s most famous paleontological sites. In the evening we will walk around the site. Overnight there.

Day2. Khongor Sand Dune – oasis tour & climb up

After breakfast time, we will drive to Khongor Sand Dune (152 km). Khongor is second biggest sand dune in the country that extend along the northern side of Sevrei and Zoolun mountain ranges. It range from 5 to 10 km in width, nearly 100 km long, with crests rising 80 to 300m above the surrounding landscape. The booming sound produced by the masses of moving sand can be heard from afar when occurs windy day. Hence locals called it as Singing Sands. Near Khongor River at the northern edge of the dunes, there is Khongor Oasis. Walk on the meadow and taste mineral water from the sand foot. Overnight there.

Day3. Khongor Sand Dune – a day camel trekking

After breakfast time, we will do camel trek in full day. The two-humped camels are very comfortable to ride, as they walk slowly and gently and we will be well supported by the humps, sitting comfortably between them. Our camel man will take us to the sand-dunes. After that we will visit to camel herder family who lives around the Khongor Oasis. Taste dairy products of camel milk and drink milk tea. Overnight in the camel herder family.

Day4. Ongi Monastery Ruin – hiking

After breakfast time, we will drive to Ongi Monastery Ruin (299 km). Ongi Monastery Ruin is the ruins of a Buddhist monastery founded in 1760 and destroyed in 1937 by communist purges. Located on the shore of the Ongi River, the monastery was formerly one of the largest monasteries in Mongolia. Raw violence of the destruction at the site was still visible, still palpable, even though it happened over years ago. It is a good place for overnight of traveling between Central Mongolia and Gobi. We will hike to the ruins for visiting to local ger museum displayed survived objects of destroyed monastery and a small lovely and active Buddhist temple. Overnight there.

Day5. Visit to nomadic family & Karakorum – former capital city of Genghis Khan

After breakfast time, we will drive to a nomadic family in Central Mongolia (217 km). Enjoy the joyful atmosphere and learn the clever nomads’ way of life by taking every chance of taking part in the nomadic life activities like a nomad. Experience the milking cows or goats. Watch how they produce tasty and nutritious dairy products. Taste their drink Airag (horse milk). Then, participate in the nomads’ daily chores – prepare dried dung from a nearby mountain for the family’s household use for making fire. After lunch time, we will drive to Karakorum (44 km). Karakorum, the capital of Great Mongolian State where today there is a small local township. The city of Karakorum was founded in 1220 in Orkhon River Valley by order of Genghis Khan and after collapse of Yuan dynasty of Khuvilai Khan, Min state’s invaders sacked the city in 1388 and ruined it. After 200 years in 1586, Erdene Zuu, the first Buddhist monastery have been built there by remained ruin of Karakorum as construction materials. In the 18th century, the complex of ornate gardens and 62 temples were home to over 1000 lamas. But in 1937, the most monasteries destroyed by communist purges. We will visit to Karakorum Museum, Karakorum Open Museum and Erdene Zuu Monastery respectively. Overnight there.

Day6. Tuvkhun Temple – hike in the larch forest & Orkhon Waterfall – horse ride

After breakfast time, we will drive to Tuvkhun Temple (65 km). The monastery is located on the peak of the densely forested and picturesque mountain Shiveet at the elevation of 2000m. Mongolian first bogd (head of the Buddhism) Zanabazar’s followers built the temple in 1653 for meditation and art studio purpose. There is several interesting things to see. Meditation caves, foot print of Zanabazar on the rock, first drawn version of soyombe, independence symbol, etc. We will hike from the bottom of the mountain to the top or the monastery. After lunch time, we will drive to Orkhon Waterfall (54 km). Over 25 m high and 10 m wide Orkhon Waterfall is the biggest waterfall in the country and one of the most attractive destination in Orkhon River Valley, UNISCO World heritage site. The surrounding areas of the waterfall was formed by volcanic activities dated back approximately 20,000 years and covered by over 10 m thick lava layer with interesting shapes of bubbles which created smaller waterfalls with 4-5 m heights. After dinner time, we will ride horses and walk for seeing the big and small waterfalls. Overnight there.

Day7. Tsenkher Hot Spring – relaxing

After breakfast time, we will drive to Tsenkher Hot Spring (95 km). Tsenkher’s abundant therapeutic natural hot spring, flows out from the ground at +86°c, have been identified as amongst the best in the Mongolia in terms of healing qualities, radio energy & temperature variance & water supply, and are particularly effective in treating a multitude of ailments and skin diseases because they can accommodate many different forms/strengths of therapy. There is several tourist ger resorts which provide hot pools by hot water from the Tsenkher geothermal area. We will do hiking to the scenic Shiveet Mountain or Tsenkher Valley which is home of yaks and stay in pool in the evening. Overnight in the tourist ger camp.

Day8. Khorgo-Terkh National Park – study volcanic activities

After breakfast time, we will drive to Khorgo-Terkh National Park (212 km). On the way, we will see Chuluut River Canyon. The volcano erupted in the Quaternary Period and its lava closed the water stream of a river and result of this meeting has created a truly incredible landscape, Khorgo Extinct Volcano and Terkh Lake, large placid lake is ringed by sandy beaches. There is a number of small or big circuit gorges, Shar Nokhoin Tam & Solo Person’s Cave etc, and complete or not complete erupted 13 volcanoes and rock formations with fast flowing rivers and cascades. From the top of the volcano panoramic view is superb. We will climb up to the top of the volcano and walk discover the circuit gorges. Overnight there.

Day9. Shine Ider sub-province

After breakfast time, we will drive to Shine Ider sub-province (170 km). On the way, we will see picturesque and high Orookh Mountain Pass. Overnight in the tourist ger camp.

Day10. Uushig Deer Stones – ancient burial site & Khuvsgul Lake – reindeer people

After breakfast time, we will drive to Uushig Deer Stones (109 km). A complex of 30 deer stones of Uushig Valley and its burial mounts belong to the ancient Huns period and over 3000 years ago. The Bronze Age funeral practice, sacrificial ritual and ideology and animal style art, which were spread among ancient nomads, are all together represented through deer stones made by long block of granite. Highly artistic illustrations of deers and other images are symbol of Shamanism. Especially, statues with images of human face draw attentions of many scientists and considered one of the rarest statues. We will walk and explore the site. Then we will drive to Khuvsgul Lake National Park (132 km). About midway along border between Mongolia and Russian Siberia, in a gigantic stone bowl nearly 110km long and almost 40km wide, lies 3% of the all the fresh water on earth – Lake Khusgul. The lake region is home to an enormous variety of plants and animals. Since 1990s Lake Khuvsgul and the entire surrounding area have been designated as a national park, and Khuvsgul is today a naturalist’s paradise and an idyllic holiday destination. The water in the lake is so clean and clear that one can easily catch sight of ground. After dinner time, we will do small leisure hike along the shore of the lake. After dinner time, we will visit  to the reindeer herders. They are Tuvan people who migrated to the northern most edge of Mongolian territory from Russian Tuvan Republic around 1920s by the variuos reason. Dukha (another name) are one of the last groups of nomadic reindeer herders and about 40 families left. Their living place is Ulaan Taiga and Darkhad Valley area but few  reindeer people move to south to the lake area in touristic season for selling hand made souviner to tourists and brought their reindeers for photo. Overnight there.

Day11. Khuvsgul Lake National Park – full day horse trek

After lunch time, we will enjoy an exhilarating horseback pack trip through untamed wilderness and panoramic scenery. The horseback riding enthusiast will experience an unforgettable excursion through timbered ridges and mountain meadows. We offer horse pack trips suited for all ages and abilities with rides varying in length . Horse pack trips allow you to reach deep into the southern Siberian wilderness. After breakfast time, we will drive to Murun town for flying back to Ulaanbaatar (119 km). After you landed in Murun, we will transfer you to your accommodation and end the trip.

Day3. Ongi Monastery Ruin- hiking

After breakfast time, we will drive to Ongi Monastery Ruin (299 km). Ongi Monastery Ruin is the ruins of a Buddhist monastery founded in 1760 and destroyed in 1937 by communist purges. Located on the shore of the Ongi River, the monastery was formerly one of the largest monasteries in Mongolia. Raw violence of the destruction at the site was still visible, still palpable, even though it happened over years ago. It is a good place for overnight of traveling between Central Mongolia and Gobi. We will hike to the ruins for visiting to local ger museum displayed survived objects of destroyed monastery and a small lovely and active Buddhist temple. Overnight there.

Day4. Visit to nomadic family & Karakorum- former capital city of Genghis Khan

After breakfast time, we will drive to a nomadic family in Central Mongolia (217 km). Enjoy the joyful atmosphere and learn the clever nomads’ way of life by taking every chance of taking part in the nomadic life activities like a nomad. Experience the milking cows or goats. Watch how they produce tasty and nutritious dairy products. Taste their drink Airag (horse milk). Then, participate in the nomads’ daily chores – prepare dried dung from a nearby mountain for the family’s household use for making fire. After lunch time, we will drive to Karakorum (44 km). Karakorum, the capital of Great Mongolian State where today there is a small local township. The city of Karakorum was founded in 1220 in Orkhon River Valley by order of Genghis Khan and after collapse of Yuan dynasty of Khuvilai Khan, Min state’s invaders sacked the city in 1388 and ruined it. After 200 years in 1586, Erdene Zuu, the first Buddhist monastery have been built there by remained ruin of Karakorum as construction materials. In the 18th century, the complex of ornate gardens and 62 temples were home to over 1000 lamas. But in 1937, the most monasteries destroyed by communist purges.  Overnight there.

Day5. Tsenkher Hot Spring- relaxing

After breakfast time, we will do half day Karakorum tour. We will visit to Karakorum Museum, Karakorum Open Museum and Erdene Zuu Monastery respectively. After lunch time, we will drive to Tsenkher Hot Spring (125 km) on the paved road. Tsenkher’s abundant therapeutic natural hot spring, flows out from the ground at +86°c, have been identified as amongst the best in the Mongolia in terms of healing qualities, radio energy & temperature variance & water supply, and are particularly effective in treating a multitude of ailments and skin diseases because they can accommodate many different forms/strengths of therapy. There is several tourist ger resorts which provide hot pools by hot water from the Tsenkher geothermal area. We will do hiking to the scenic Shiveet Mountain or Tsenkher Valley which is home of yaks and stay in pool in the evening. Overnight in the tourist ger camp.

Day6. Khorgo-Terkh National Park- study volcanic activities

After breakfast time, we will drive to Khorgo-Terkh National Park (212 km) mostly on the paved road. On the way, we will see Chuluut River Canyon. The volcano erupted in the Quaternary Period and its lava closed the water stream of a river and result of this meeting has created a truly incredible landscape, Khorgo Extinct Volcano and Terkh Lake, large placid lake is ringed by sandy beaches. There is a number of small or big circuit gorges, Shar Nokhoin Tam & Solo Person’s Cave etc, and complete or not complete erupted 13 volcanoes and rock formations with fast flowing rivers and cascades. From the top of the volcano panoramic view is superb. We will climb up to the top of the volcano and walk discover the circuit gorges. Overnight there.

Day7. Shine Ider sub-province

After breakfast time, we will drive to Shine Ider sub-province (170 km). On the way, we will see picturesque and high Orookh Mountain Pass. Overnight in the tourist ger camp.

Day8. Uushig Deer Stones- ancient burial site & Khuvsgul Lake- reindeer people

After breakfast time, we will drive to Uushig Deer Stones (109 km). A complex of 30 deer stones of Uushig Valley and its burial mounts belong to the ancient Huns period and over 3000 years ago. The Bronze Age funeral practice, sacrificial ritual and ideology and animal style art, which were spread among ancient nomads, are all together represented through deer stones made by long block of granite. Highly artistic illustrations of deers and other images are symbol of Shamanism. Especially, statues with images of human face draw attentions of many scientists and considered one of the rarest statues. We will walk and explore the site.Then we will drive to Khuvsgul Lake National Park (132 km). About midway along border between Mongolia and Russian Siberia, in a gigantic stone bowl nearly 110km long and almost 40km wide, lies 3% of the all the fresh water on earth – Lake Khusgul. The lake region is home to an enormous variety of plants and animals. Since 1990s Lake Khuvsgul and the entire surrounding area have been designated as a national park, and Khuvsgul is today a naturalist’s paradise and an idyllic holiday destination. The water in the lake is so clean and clear that one can easily catch sight of ground. After dinner time, we will do small leisure hike along the shore of the lake. Overnight there.

Day9. Khuvsgul Lake National Park – half day horse trek.

After lunch time, we will enjoy an exhilarating horseback pack trip through untamed wilderness and panoramic scenery. The horseback riding enthusiast will experience an unforgettable excursion through timbered ridges and mountain meadows. We offer horse pack trips suited for all ages and abilities with rides varying in length . Horse pack trips allow you to reach deep into the southern Siberian wilderness. Horseback riding and fun are the main objectives on horse pack trips combined with good nomad’s Mongolian hospitality. Saddle up the whole family for an unforgettable horseback riding adventure. After dinner time, we will visit  to the reindeer herders. They are Tuvan people who migrated to the northern most edge of Mongolian territory from Russian Tuvan Republic around 1920s by the variuos reason. Dukha (another name) are one of the last groups of nomadic reindeer herders and about 40 families left. Their living place is Ulaan Taiga and Darkhad Valley area but few  reindeer people move to south to the lake area in touristic season for selling hand made souviner to tourists and brought their reindeers for photo. Overnight there.

Day10. Back to Ulaanbaatar.

After breakfast time, we will drive to Murun town for flying back to Ulaanbaatar (119 km). After you landed in Murun, we will transfer you to your accommodation and end the trip.

You can google & book the tickets online.Why food service not included in the Budget Arrangement? You can buy meals from local ger guesthouses by paying only 2 or 3 usd per meal. There is plenty of food shops on the way when you are touring. You can carry your own food from UB. It is nice you eat our own breakfast and then buy meals for lunch and dinner. Detailed Itinerary

Day1. Arrive in Altanbulag, Amarbayasgalant Monastery

After breakfast time, we will drive to Amarbayasgalant Monastery (220 km). English meaning of the monastery is Monastery of Tranquil Felicity. It is a large and best preserved in Mongolia. By the order of Kang Xi of Qun built in 1736 for commemorate for Zanabazar who is first bogd of Mongolian Buddhism. The monastery was sacked in 1937 during Stalinist purges. After the restoration, started from 1988, by funding of high ranked Buddhist leaders of Tibet, the monastery complex eventually took its former glory. We will walk there and explore the monastery. Overnight there.

Day2. Uran Extinct Volcano

After breakfast time, we will drive to Uran Extinct Volcano (262 km). On the way, we will see picturesque Ikh-Uu Mountain. Uran means “Artistic”,  Mongols named it so because its ridge of the crater is one of many examples of circles that arise in nature resembled a nice creature of a craftsman. A circle-shaped ridge about 500 m across that contains a crater lake at about 20 m wide and 1.5 m deep. There is  also another recognizable volcanoes with broken craters such as Tulga, Jalavch and Togoo. We will climb up to the top of the volcano. Overnight there.

Day3. Karakorum – capital city of Genghis Khan

We will pick you up from your accommodation and drive to Karakorum (262 km). Karakorum, the capital of Great Mongolian State where today there is a small local township. Day4. Visit to nomadic family and Ongi Monastery Ruins

Enjoy the joyful atmosphere and learn the clever nomads’ way of life by taking every chance of taking part in the nomadic life activities like a nomad. Experience the milking cows or goats. Day5. Bayanzag – dinosaur site

After breakfast time, continue the drive towards Bayanzag (155 km). On the route, you will see “high way” of Gobi Desert. Bayanzag means saxual forest in English and area of red cliffs “Bayanzag” which have been formed from the erosion of the water and wind over many millions of years. A lot of dinosaurs’ findings such as Protoceratops & dinosaur’ eggs have been found there in first time. American zoologist Roy Chapman Andrews discovered this place and named as Flaming Cliffs. The red colored cliffs themselves are very imposing from a distance, and are particularly fiery in the light of the setting sun. It is an interesting place to wander about to get a closer look at one of the world’s most famous paleontological sites. In the evening we will walk around the site. Overnight there.

Day6. Khongor Sand Dune – camel riding and sand dunes climbing

After breakfast time, we will drive to Khongor Sand Dune (150 km). Khongor is second biggest sand dune in the country that extend along the northern side of Sevrei and Zoolun mountain ranges. It range from 5 to 10 km in width, nearly 100 km long, with crests rising 80 to 300m above the surrounding landscape. The booming sound produced by the masses of moving sand can be heard from afar when occurs windy day. Hence locals called it as Singing Sands. Near Khongor River at the northern edge of the dunes, there is an oasis. We will ride camels today to explore these massive sand-dunes and explore the area where climbing one of the dunes affords the energetic traveler with an unforgettable experience of endless vistas across a sea of daffodil-colored sand. Overnight there.

Day7. Yol Valley – horse riding, nature museum

After breakfast time, we will drive to Yol Valley (190 km). Yol means vulture in Mongolian and the valley begins from Zuun Saikhan Mountain, a branch of the Gurvan Saikhan Mountain range, and stretches over 10 km. The narrowest part, only 3 or 4 person can pass in same time, of the valley is completely shaded from the direct sun shine by high cliff walls. Also, the valley is famous for the fact that there is ice created in winter by small stream of the valley present there even during the hot summer months until end of Jul. The beauty of the valley, combined with the smell of juniper creates an atmosphere of awe and wonder – this is an experience not to be missed! There we will ride horse through the valley. An hour hiking is also a nice activity there if you not like horse ride. As well, we visit to local natural museum of Gurvan Saikhan National Park. Overnight there.

Day8. Fly back to Ulaanbaatar

After breakfast time, we will drive to Dalanzadgad (40 km) and fly back to Ulaanbaatar. After you arrive in the city, our driver will pick you up and transfer to your drop off place.
