Once in Gobi, visit the Vulture Gorge which has perhaps the only glacier in a desert in the world and the Flaming Cliffs where the first dinosaur bones were found. Traveling to Karakorum with 4WD off-roader, you will feel freedom of space and time, freedom on vast free land which exist nowhere else in the world. Erdene Zuu is one of the most glorious examples of the revival of the Buddhist religion in Mongolia, where the temples are slowly and lovingly being restored and are once again teaming with chanting monks. The Monastery lies near the town of Karakorum. Although little evidence remains of the great man himself, this was the site from where Genghis Khan launched his army, which eventually created the biggest empire the world has ever known.
Day1. Arrive in Ulaanbaatar. City tour.
Arrive in Ulaanbaatar city either by train or plane. We will pick you up and transfer to the hotel. Day2. Fly to North Mongolia. /1.5 hour/ Uushig Deer stone site and reach in the National Park. /150 km/
Early morning, you will be transferred to the airport for an hour flight to the North Mongolia . After you landed in Murun town which is provincial center of Khuvsgul province, our local staff will pick you up at the local air strip and, after breakfast time, you will be driven to the Uushig Deer stone site. Before we head to Uushig deer stone site, we will have small interesting tour of Murun town. Firstly we will visit a museum of Murun town. Then we will visit to local food market. You can buy some useful things from here. After lunch time, you we will drive to Lake Khuvsgul which is the deepest fresh water lake in Central Asia. It has the same geomorphologic & ecological origin as Lake Baikal in Russia and constitutes over 1% of the world’s total surface water. Tourists call it the ‘Switzerland of Mongolia’. For rest of the day, you will be sightseeing & walking around the lake. Overnight in the National Park.
Day3. Lake Khuvsgul. After breakfast time, you will have half day hiking. Hiking around back mountain of the Lake is unforgettable. You will hike over a beautiful forested mount next to the Lake Khuvsgul. This mount is a branch of Khoridol Saridag Mountains Range, one of the highest mountains (approximately 3351 meter above sea level). Your guide will be accompanying you and packed lunch will be available. While traveling in a green meadow, you can pick some natural wild fruits such as wild strawberry, currant, gooseberry, red bilberry, bog bilberry and etc. Probably, you will see many kinds of wild rare & rarely animals also, such grazing deer, ibex, gazelle or any kinds of birds. After lunch time, we will enjoy an exhilarating horseback pack trip through untamed wilderness and panoramic scenery. The horseback riding enthusiast will experience an unforgettable excursion through timbered ridges and mountain meadows. We offer horse pack trips suited for all ages and abilities with rides varying in length . Horse pack trips allow you to reach deep into the southern Siberian wilderness. Horseback riding and fun are the main objectives on horse pack trips combined with good nomad’s Mongolian hospitality. Saddle up the whole family for an unforgettable horseback riding adventure. You don’t have to eat the rocks but you might be interested to see what is done with them after the meal is cooked! (if you are vegetarian please let us to know.) Overnight in the National Park.
Day4. Jargal Jiguur tourist camp and hot spa. /250 km/ After breakfast time, you will visit a reindeer herders’ family. You will see & enjoy specific lifestyle of those ‘society isolated’ people. Then, you can try riding on reindeer back if you want. Early morning, will drive toward the north for reindeer. On reaching in a foothill of pass Janhai, we visit a reindeer herders’ family. Then, you will be introduced into specific lifestyle of this nation’s minority and especially you will see & enjoy performance of their religion ‘Shaman’.
After lunch time, we will drive to Jargal Jiguur (Happiness Wings) tourist camp and hot spa. On the route we will see picturesque Mountain Pass Tsagaan Burgas (White Trees). After dinner time, you will have free time. You can relax here in open bath of hot spa. Overnight in Jargal jiguur.
Day5. National Park Khorgo-Terkh. /90 km/ After breakfast time, we will drive to the National park Khorgo-Terkh. En route, we will see picturesque Mountain Pass Orookh. Khorgo volcano is a dead volcano covered with basalt lying to the east of the Lake Terkhiin Tsagaan (White of Terkh), has volcanic origins, in Tariat sum (sub-province) of Arkhangai aimag (province). The Volcano erupted in the Quaternary Period and its lave closed the water stream of River Suman and result of this meeting has created a truly incredible landscape which is matched by the fascinating extinct volcano craters which have produced a number of rock formations and huge gorges with fast flowing rivers and cascades. Something that is easy to figure out by the trail of solidified lava formations leading from the Lake to nearby the Volcano. The Volcano is worth climbing if only to walk around the crater it is easy to hire a horse and ride it up the volcano, which also gives you chance to visit of the more interesting lava formations on your way, or cars can be driven almost to the visit almost to the to the summit. There are interesting bubbles of solidified lava, named “basalt ger” and it is possible to visit yak herders in this area. After lunch time, Today we will be hiking to volcano Khorgo and climbing up to top of the volcano. After dinner time, we will have free time and boating on the Lake is possible. Overnight in the National Park. Day6. Tsetserleg town and Strictly Protected Area Mountain Bulgan. /190 km/ After breakfast time, we will drive to Tsetserleg (Garden) town. En route, we will see picturesque River Canyon Chuluut (Rocky), Rock formation Taikhar and picturesque Mountain Pass Tsagaan (White). After lunch time, Before we head to Mountain Bulgan, we will have small interesting tour of Tsetserleg town. Firstly we will visit a museum of Zaya Bandid monastery of the town. Then we will visit to local food market. You can buy some useful things from here. Also, it is possible to go Internet if you wish. After dinner time, we will go to S.P.A Mountain Bulgan and climb up to the Mountain. Overnight in Tsetserleg town.
Day7. Leave UB. Karakorum /350 km/. Horseback riding. After breakfast time, we will drive to Karakorum village. After lunch time, we will visit to Erdene Zuu monastery complex. In the history, the city of Karakorum was founded in 1220 in a valley named the Orkhon, at a busy point on the route of the Silk Road which is in the first large break in the chain of mountains. Karakorum was the center of the Great Mongolian Empire until Khubilai Khaan moved his capital to Beijing. Also, you will see the monastery of Erdene Zuu which was built in 1586. It is the first Buddhist monastery in Mongolia and, at its peak in the late 18th century the complex of ornate gardens and 62 temples was home to over 1000 lamas. Also, we will see turtle rocks, great imperial maps and phallic rock there. After dinner time, we will ride horses in the valley of the Mongols' historical river Orkhon. Overnight in Karakorum.
Day8. Ongi monastery ruins /250 km/. Visit to nomadic family and walking. After breakfast time, we will head to Saikhan Ovoo sub-province of Dundgobi (middle Gobi) province. On the route we will see Mongolian great steppe changing its natural scenery to Gobi' semi desert. We will arrive in Ongi monastery ruins before lunch time. On the route we will visit real steppe nomadic family. Taste their drink Airag (horse milk). After lunch time, There we will enjoy the peace and beauty of the Delger Khangai Mountains. We will explore the ruins of of Ongi Monastery. During the way visit the mountainside remains of the Ongiin Monastery, which now has a small number of novices after years of turmoil. There we will enjoy the peace and beauty of the Delger Khangai Mountains. We will explore the ruins of of Ongi Monastery. After dinner time, you will have free time. Overnight in Ongi monastery ruins.
Day9. Bayanzag /180 km/. Walking. After breakfast time, continue the drive towards Bayanzag, a saxual forest and area of red cliffs “Bayanzag” which have been formed from the erosion of the sand and rock over many thousands of years. A lot of dinosaurs’ findings such as skeleton & dinosaur’ eggs have been found there. Before reach in Bayanzag, we will see Gobi precious stone market. It is really interesting. American zoologist Roy Chapman Andrews named this place as “End of the World”. As scientists defined it was an inland sea bottom some 200 million years ago. On the route we will see endless Gobi steppe Ongi plateau. We will arrive in Bayanzag before lunch time. After lunch time, you will have some free time. Then we will walk around Gobi saxual forest. After dinner time, we will explore around Bayanzag. The Flaming Cliffs themselves are very imposing from a distance, and are particularly fiery in the light of the setting sun, and it is an interesting place to wander about to get a closer look at one of the world’s most famous paleontological sites. Also, we will visit local dinosaur ger museum. Overnight in Bayanzag. Day10. Sand dunes Khongor /120 km/. Camel riding, visit to camel herder nomadic family and sand dunes climbing. Today we will enjoy some travel activities of Gobi desert. After breakfast time, we will drive towards Khongor sand dunes that extend along the northern side of Sevrei and Zoolun mountain ranges. On the route we will visit to Gobi procious stone market. After lunch time, we will camel ride. The two-humped camels are very comfortable to ride, as they walk slowly and gently and we will be well supported by the humps, sitting comfortably between them. Our camel man will take us to the sand-dunes. Visit to Nomads Family. Interaction with local nomads. After dinner time, we will explore the area, climbing one of the dunes affords the energetic traveler with an unforgettable experience of endless vistas across a sea of daffodil-colored sand. The dunes extend for 185 kilometers and include dunes that can reach 80 meters in height. The sound produced by the masses of moving sand can be heard from afar, and when it occurs, it is said that it can be mistaken for the sound of an aero plane. Hence their name is 'singing sands', or 'musical sands'. Near Khongor Gol (River Khongor) at the northern edge of the dunes, there is an oasis.
Day11. Yolyn Am /280 km/. Dalanzadgad town. Today we will head to Yolyn Am. On the way, we will see interesting canyon Dungenee Am and small lovely Bayandalai village, center of sub province. After lunch time we will explore Yolyn Am, the valley begins from Zuun Saikhan Mountain, a branch of the Gurvan Saikhan mountain system, and stretches over 10 km. It is completely shaded from the sun in some parts by high cliff walls. You will ride Mongolian horse in this narrow green valley. It will be great experience for you. You will ride horses through the valley which is famous for the fact that there is ice present there even during the hot summer months. The beauty of the valley, combined with the sound of vultures (Yol means vulture, in Mongolian) creates an atmosphere of awe and wonder – this is an experience not to be missed! Also, we will visit to local small museum of Yolyn Am. Before dinner time, we will enjoy small interesting tour of Dalanzadgad town. Firstly we will visit a museum of Dalanzadgad town. Then we will visit to local market of Dalanzadgad. After dinner time, TGB will invite you to go to local beer pub. Have a fun time and taste Mongolian beer. Overnight in Dalanzadgad town.
Day12. Fly to Ulaanbaatar. /1.5 hours/. Shopping. After breakfast time, we will be transferred to local air field for flying to Ulaanbaatar city. After arrive in the city, we will transfer you to your accommodation. Free day for shopping.
Day13. International departure. After breakfast, you will be transferred to the railway station or international airport for your international departure.
