Although little evidence remains of the great man himself, this was the site from where Genghis Khan launched his army, which eventually created the biggest empire the world has ever known.

Detailed Itinerary

Day1. 05 Jul. Elsen Tasarkhai – half day camel trek.

We will pick you up from your accommodation and drive to Elsen Tasarkhai. It is small sand dunes, 80 km long, continuously lies in the lowland of legendary Khugnu Khaan and Bat Khaan mountains. Sand dunes represents landscape, climate & ecology of Gobi Desert, in this region. After lunch, we will start half day camel trek. The two-humped camels are very comfortable to ride, as they walk slowly and gently. We will be well supported by the humps, sitting comfortably between them. Then we will have a dinner, traditional food “buuz”, steamed dumpling. Overnight in the tourist ger camp.

Day2. 06 Jul. Ugii Lake – boat fishing and horse ride.

After breakfast, we will drive to Ugii Lake. It is nearest lake to Ulaanbaatar and also called a paradise for fishers. Delicate sand and whetstone coast, the soft wave and it is very convenient to have boat adventure. After lunch, we will start our horse riding. We will ride horse there. Mongolians are historically a nomadic people, and thus many of their cultural symbols reflect nomadic life and the horse is probably the most central part of Mongolian culture. Our ride will continue 3 hours. Today’s dinner will be “Khuushuur” which is flat, fried and traditional Mongolian dish. In the evening, we will fishing on the lake from boat. Overnight in the tourist ger camp.

Day3. 07 Jul. Turkish Heritage Site and Karakorum – first Buddhist temple and a history museum.

After breakfast, we will drive to Turkish Heritage Site. It is two memorial installations erected by the Turkish people written in Old Turkic alphabet in the honor of two Turkic princes, Kul Tigin and his brother Bilge Khagan in 732 in the Khushuu Tsaidam Valley. Then we will continue drive to Karakorum. After lunch, we will visit to Erdenezuu Monastery Complex. The monastery was built in 1586 and is surrounded by a vast 400m wall. But only a few of which remain standing after the communist purges of 1939. The phallic rock, turtle rock and Golden Eagles can be visited respectively. We will visit also to Kharkhorin Museum. Today’s dinner is “Tsuivan” which is steamed noodle with meat and it is considered most favorite food for many Mongolian men. Overnight at tourist ger camp.

Day4. 08 Jul. Local naadam. Karakorum.

After breakfast, we will go to the allotted place for the competition. We will see opening ceremony of the festival and see traditional wrestling competition and horse racing in more closer range. Also, you can go to local shop for buying some souvenir and other things. Today dinner is “Khorkhog” which is another traditional respectful Mongolian dish similar to BBQ and it is mutton or goat meat and large chunks of vegetable cooked in a metal pot with hot stones from a flaming fire. Overnight at tourist ger camp.

Day5. 09 Jul. Khustai National Park – wild horses

After breakfast, we will drive to Khustai National Park. Khustai where re-introduction of the wild takhi horses (Przhevalsky’s horses) has taken place since 1992. Takhi is last wild horse subspecies surviving in the 21st century. It was discovered in western by Russian explorer N.M. Przhevalsky. After lunch we will start hike to looking wild horses. Today dinner will be shorlog, the meat is marinated with onions, potato and carrots and skewered and cooked over wood smoke. Overnight in tent near to horse trainers’ clan.

Day6. 10 Jul. See horse race in Khui Doloon Khudag and go to UB.

After breakfast, we will go for seeing Mongols’ most favorite activity of Naadam festival, horse racing, featuring  children  riding  bareback  across the steppe. After the races, return to Ulaanbaatar.
