Gobi is huge. It is second biggest desert in the World. East part of the Gobi Desert is its one of the lowest population density and emptiest part. This itinerary is a quiet off road safari to isolated spectacular rocky hills, where you will be in just with your tour members, and away from any shops, restaurants and there is nothing to buy. You may ride your camel and not see anyone except maybe a small herd of wild ass, or single ger of nomads with few camels. Later as the huge desert stars come out you will relax and watch your guide and camel driver cook you dinner, freshly prepared for you, over a small camp fire. Simple camp beds, and tents, are optional. Everything at there is endemic and real. If you avoid from touristic spot and this tour for you.

Detailed Itinerary

Day1. Drive to Sainshand town
Day2. Khamar Monastery tour

Day1. Drive to Sainshand town. 

We will pick you up from your accommodation at 08:00 o’clock & drive to Sainshand town (465 km – 7 hours on the paved road). Sainshand town is biggest settlement in East Gobi Desert. There we will visit to Danzanravjaa Museum. The exhibits are hidden treasures belonging to Mongolia’s most revered and multi-talented monk Danzanravjaa spent decades buried in there. Then we will drive to the tourist ger camp (15 km on the paved road). Overnight in the tourist ger camp.

Day2. Khamar Monastery – World energy center

After breakfast time, we will drive to Khamar Monastery (35 km on the paved road). The Khamar Monastery was established by educator, poet and noble monk Danzanravjaa in 1820. He chose the site of the monastery believing the surrounding area radiated with a spiritual energy fostered by the Gobi desert. But the monastery was completely destroyed by communist purges in 1937. Rebuilding efforts still continued from 1992 and got large success. There, we will see 108 Caves, dinosaur skeleton on the ground and petrified threes of Jurassic Period respectively. Also, we will hike around and enjoy small sand dunes. Then we will will drive to Khusliin Khar Mountain (25 km on dirt road). It is believed to be the executor of the dream of the people. Climb up there & view from the top is spectacular. Then we will drive to the tourist ger camp (25 km mostly on the paved road). Overnight in the tourist ger camp.

Day3. Ulgii Monastery Ruin & Suikhent Mountain – petrified trees

After breakfast time, we will drive to Ulgii Monastery Ruin (270 km – 7 hours on the dirt road). It is the ruins of a Buddhist monastery founded in 1745 and destroyed in 1937 by communist purges. The monastery was formerly one of the largest monasteries in Gobi Desert with over 1000 monks. Raw violence of the destruction at the site was still visible, still palpable, even though it happened over years ago. After lunch time, we will do an hour walk around the ruins. Then we will drive to Suikhent Mountain (15 km on the dirt road). Suikhent Mountain is home of petrified trees of Jurassic Period which is about 60 million years ago and proclaimed as protected place in 1996 for protecting trees. Some of those impressive petrified trees up to 20 m long & diameter can reach at 2 m. Before dinner time, we will explore petrified trees at the mountain and climb up to the top. Overnight in the tent.

Day4. Shar Tsav – dinosaur footprints

After breakfast time, we will drive to the Shar Tsav (50 km – 2 hours on the dirt road). The Shar Tsav dinosaur track site in the Gobi Desert, Mongolia, features numerous fossil footprints formed when the area was the coast of a prehistoric sea. At there, you can imagine walking along an ocean shoreline 60 million years ago with dozens of dinosaurs, who were looking to pick up a bite of lunch from what washed up on the last high tide. After lunch time we will explore the site. The walkway and pavilion are accessible. Overnight in the tent.

Day5. Drive to Ikh Nart Nature Reserve – wild sheep Argali

After breakfast time, we will drive to Ikh Nart Nature Reserve (320 km – 8 hours on the dirt road). It is rocky hills or small mountains in the middle of steppe with semi-desert landscape, Ikh Nart which not filled by tourists & you will find gorgeous looking nature. This rocky landscape has weathered over millennia, into domes, weird shapes, craggy ridges and a mind-boggling range of textures. It’s a favorite with wild life enthusiasts — it harbors large populations of argali sheep is a sure draw. Overnight in the tent.

Day6. Ikh Nart Nature Reserve tour 

After breakfast time, we will hike around the 2 springs, Khalzan Mountain and Burgasan Am for looking argali – wild sheep. After lunch time, we will drive back to Ulaanbaatar (330 km – 5 hours on the paved road). After arrive in the city, you will be transferred to your accommodation and end the trip.

End time: around 19:00 o’clock
